For the past fifteen years, Ebony has been a nurturer and beam of light, ushering thousands of students into their next phase of life. As an Admissions Counselor at Genesee Community College (GCC), she is responsible for representing the college to high school students across New York State. Also, helping them through the admission process once enrolled. However, Ebony’s commitment extends beyond that. Many of her students stick with her throughout their entire two-year stay and beyond looking to her for support with selecting classes, making career decisions and overall life.

To be a successful admission counselor, you should be committed to learning more about the students you work with and how they may benefit from specific schools or programs. You have to be knowledgeable, resourceful, and supportive with strong communication skills. Throughout the years, Ebony has shown her commitment to learning more about each student to help those with undecided majors choose what program would benefit them the most.

As her students have said, she serves as their “college-mom” away from home. Many of the families have shown their gratitude for the time and care Ebony has taken with their children and many stay in touch with her even after graduation.

Ebony takes the time to ensure students young and those more seasoned, understands that education enables people to grow personally, academically and professionally. It has always been exciting for her to help someone “find their way,” and make sure they feel comfortable navigating this phase of life with confidence and have fun along the way.

Ebony also has served as the Chair for the NY State Consortium, a conference for her College/University peers and local School Counselors. Also, she has served on the Judicial Committee for GCC.

Ebony is a graduate of Livingstone College in Salisbury, NC and Buffalo State College and member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
